Renaissance

The Renaissance was a fervent period of European cultural, artistic, political and economic “rebirth” following the Middle Ages. Generally described as taking place from the 14th century to the 17th century, the Renaissance promoted the rediscovery of classical philosophy, literature and art.

For example:

The Printing Press

In the 15th century, the invention of the printing press enabled people to share knowledge more quickly and widely. German goldsmith Johannes Gutenberg is credited with inventing the printing press. However, Caxton is credited with standardising the English language through printing—that is, homogenising regional dialects and largely adopting the London dialect.

The English Reformation

The English Reformation began with Henry VIII of England and continued in stages over the rest of the 16th century. Henry coerced Parliament to enact laws which annulled his first marriage, and declared him the "supreme head" of the Church of England; this constituted a separation of the Church of England from the Church of Rome.

The Elizabethan era
The Elizabethan Age is the time period associated with the reign of Queen Elizabeth I and is often considered to be a golden age in English history. It was an age considered to be the height of the English Renaissance and saw the full flowering of English literature and English poetry.
